The sink gauge refers to the thickness of the metal. Stainless steel is measured in gauges; the higher the gauge the thinner the material. All Kibi sinks are premium handcrafted 16 gauge, fabricated to the highest standards, and designed according to the needs of homeowners.
Very important. The thicker the steel, the less susceptible it is to denting, bowing and noise transmission from pots and pans hitting the metal surface.
The thickness, called "gauge", can be determined by its number. The lower the number, the thicker the steel. Most sinks come in 18 or 20 gauge steel. However, Kibi use SUS-304 premium 16 gauge to insure more than ample thickness for residential sinks.
Stainless steel cannot rust on its own. Rust is caused by a metallic particulate which has oxidized on the surface of a product and turned it to rust. When rust occurs on a product, it resides on the top surface. If rust appears on the inside of your sink. it is likely the result of the chemicals being used in, or around, the sink. Do not use cleaners with bleach to clean counter tops adjacent to the sink: The overspray can land on the sink and cause rusting. Thoroughly rinse down the sink after using the counter top cleaner. Rust is not the result of a manufacturing process, nor is it considered a defect in the product.
To reduce the chance of rust occurring, keep the following in mind:
• Don't leave dish rags or other cleaning utensil on the counter top or in the sink basin.
• Rubber mats left in the sink will allow soap and hard water deposits to form in the grain of the sink.
• The use of abrasive pads, even sparingly, will allow rust to get into the grain of a sink.
• Hard water in the house may also account for rust stains.
When rust does appear, it is typically only surface rust and can be removed easily with the right cleaners. Do not use steel wool, wire brushes or abrasive sponge pads. Use on non-scratch cleaning pads.
Sink Bottom Grids with rubber padding provide great protection against scratches and rust spots.

As with most things, your stainless steel sink WILL scratch with use. However, over time as the sink ages, scratches will become less apparent and in fact blend into the surface.
If water is left standing anywhere on your stainless steel sink, it will evaporate and leave a film (spots) on the surface of the steel. This film can be removed with regular dish soap and water and a soft cloth. For removing heavier residue, you may use a mild solution of vinegar and water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly and towel dry.
Rear sink drains maximize the functionality and usable space inside the sink bowl. They also create extra cabinet storage beneath the sink, by enabling drainpipes and garbage disposals to be installed at the rear of the kitchen cabinet.
1. Undermount sinks are installed under the countertop. This is the most popular method of install and is most widely used with stone countertops. You cannot install an undermount sink in a laminate countertop.
2. Topmount sinks are installed on top of the countertop. These sinks will have a lip, or ledge around the sink and can be used with stone or laminate countertops. If your sink is a drop-in / topmount sink, most of these models can also be installed undermounted.
Please refer to the template included in your sink packaging. This is the guideline that your countertop fabricator will use to create the cut-out for the sink.
